Ask anyone in Sudbury about cottage country close to home and Lake Panache comes up fast. Plenty of folks still call it Penage. Either way, it’s one of the biggest and most loved cottage lakes in the region, and selling a camp here takes someone who understands how the lake works.
Team KING covers the entire Sudbury Real Estate Board area. On Lake Panache, we sell boat-access cottages, road-access camps, four-season lake homes and vacant waterfront lots. Jason has sold several island and boat-access properties over his career, and he’ll tell you it’s one of his favourite parts of the job. Most recently he helped a buyer track down a vacant lot in McGregor Bay that was being sold privately.

Lake Panache by the Numbers
According to the City of Greater Sudbury, Lake Panache:
- Covers 8,034.1 hectares
- Has a shoreline perimeter of 417.9 km
- Reaches a maximum depth of 55 metres
- Has about 45 permanent residents and 470 seasonal or recreational residents
The City’s spring phosphorus testing puts the lake in the oligotrophic range, which is the clear, low-nutrient water cottagers love. The Panache Lake Campers Association is the lake’s stewardship group.
Where It Is and How People Get In
Lake Panache sits south of Whitefish and Lively, stretching west toward Espanola. Only part of it lies inside Greater Sudbury’s city limits; the rest is in the Sudbury District. You reach it by two roads: Panache Lake Road (Municipal Road 10) on the Greater Sudbury side and Penage Lake Road on the Espanola side. Much of the lake is reachable only by boat from the marinas at the end of those roads. Part of the south shore borders Killarney Lakelands and Headwaters Provincial Park.
That big share of boat-access property is exactly why a Lake Panache sale is different from a sale in town.
What Panache Buyers Will Ask
- Access: Is it road access or boat access? Where do you park, and is there a marina spot or boat slip that goes with it?
- Getting in each season: How do you get in at freeze-up and break-up?
- Services: septic or other waste system, water source, hydro, solar or generator
- Shoreline: frontage, exposure, docks, and whether a road allowance or Crown shoreline reserve runs along it
- Title: whether the island or lot is owned outright and properly described
Our waterfront and recreational selling guide covers each of these, and our Lively and Walden page covers the communities nearby.

Lake Panache Selling FAQ
Is Lake Panache the same as Penage Lake?
Yes. The lake was originally named Panache, and over time the English spelling drifted to Penage. Official usage has gone back to Panache, but you’ll hear both.
Can you sell a boat-access cottage on Panache?
Yes. We spell out the access in the listing (parking, the marina and the boat ride in) and arrange showings by boat.
When should I list my Panache cottage?
Buyers want to see open water, and boat-access showings depend on the ice. Many sellers capture video and drone footage in summer or fall and list when the lake is open. We’ll plan it with you.
Do I pay for cleaning or staging the cottage?
No. Team KING covers the prep costs (cleaning, painting and staging), and the evaluation is free.
Do you sell on other lakes near Sudbury?
Yes. We cover the entire Sudbury Real Estate Board area, including Lake Wanapitei, the French River area and the lakes inside the city.
