People ask me all the time: “Why does a real estate team care so much about the YMCA?”
Fair question. Most folks expect a REALTOR® to talk about listings, open houses and interest rates. And we do plenty of that. But if you’ve followed Team KING for a while, you know there’s one line we repeat every chance we get: $50 from every sale goes to the local YMCA.
I’ve been selling homes in Greater Sudbury since January 1, 2015. I grew up in Garson, I still live there, and this city has given me a lot. Giving some of it back isn’t a marketing idea for us. It’s just how we were raised, and it’s how I want this team to run.
The Short Version: Every Sale Does a Little Good
Here’s how it works, plain and simple:
- When Team KING helps someone buy or sell a home, $50 from that sale goes to the YMCA here at home.
- On top of that, I’ve given $10 from every sale to Children’s Miracle Network for nearly 12 years, since I started in 2015.
- And every spring, we put our backs into the YMCA Fill the Bus campaign, which we’ve supported for 11 years now.
You don’t have to sign anything, add anything or pay anything extra. It comes out of our side of the deal. Your move just ends up doing a little good in the community along the way.
“For Me, It Starts at John Island Camp”
I’ll be honest about why the YMCA is the one I care about most. For me personally, John Island Camp holds a very special place in my heart. Those summers shaped who I am today: the friendships, the confidence, learning to try things that scared me a little.
Not every family in Sudbury can swing the cost of summer camp. That’s the reality. Some kids in Minnow Lake, the Flour Mill, Hanmer or Chelmsford would love a week like I had, and money is the only thing standing in the way. If a few dollars from a house sale can help change that, I think that’s about the best use of it I can think of.
The Math Behind Fill the Bus
I like to show the math, because it makes it real.
Through the YMCA Fill the Bus campaign, every $275 sends one child to camp. In 2026, Team KING raised $4,100, and that sent 15 kids to camp. You can read the full story in our post on how Team KING raised $4,100 to send 15 kids to camp.
Now think about the $50-per-sale piece. Here’s a hypothetical example, just to show how it adds up:
- Say a team closes 55 sales in a year.
- 55 sales × $50 = $2,750.
- $2,750 ÷ $275 = 10 more kids at camp.
Those aren’t our actual numbers for any given year. It’s just an example of how small, steady giving turns into something real. Fifty dollars doesn’t sound like much on its own. Fifty dollars, every single deal, year after year? That’s a bus full of kids.
Why the YMCA Matters in Sudbury
The YMCA in Sudbury is part of the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario, and it’s woven into a lot of local family life, from camp to the Sudbury YMCA location out at Kivi Park. It’s one of those organizations that quietly does a lot of good without making a big fuss about it.
When we sell homes, we’re helping families start the next chapter. First-time buyers in New Sudbury. Young families moving up to Valley East. Downsizers leaving the family home in the South End. Estates being settled after a loss. Every one of those moves is a big deal for the people living it. Tying each one to something that helps local kids just feels right.
“It’s Not Just Us. It’s Our Clients Too.”
I want to be clear about something. The money comes from our side, but the credit belongs to our clients just as much as it belongs to us.
Every family who trusts Team KING with their home is part of this. When you choose us, you’re choosing a team that believes in this community. That’s not a slogan. That’s 11 years of Fill the Bus, a donation on every sale, and a team that shows up.
And it’s not only the YMCA. Over the past year, our team has jumped into the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics, Shawn and Aleks took part in the Pond Hockey Festival on the Rock, and we’ve given Sudbury Wolves hockey tickets to people in the community. We also hosted a free First-Time Home Buyer Seminar this year, because helping people understand the process is a way of giving back too. You can see more on our community involvement page.
What This Means If You’re Thinking of Selling

Questions People Ask Me
Do I pay anything extra for the YMCA donation?
No. It comes out of Team KING’s side of the sale. There’s nothing added to your costs.
Does it apply when I buy, too?
Yes. It’s every sale we’re part of, whether we’re helping you buy or sell.
How can I support Fill the Bus myself?
Watch the YMCA’s Fill the Bus page and follow Team KING on social media. We share it every year when the campaign kicks off, and every $275 sends a child to camp.
