Hundreds of homes sold across Greater Sudbury

I grew up in Garson and I still live here, so I’ll give you the straight goods. Garson is about 10 km northeast of downtown, roughly halfway between the New Sudbury shopping district and the Greater Sudbury Airport. It has a real small-town feel with the city close by.

It’s the largest community in the former Town of Nickel Centre, which also includes Falconbridge, Coniston, Skead and Wahnapitae. Locals still use the name.

What Homes in Garson Are Like

  • Mostly single-detached, from older mining-era homes to newer subdivisions.
  • Full municipal services and high-speed internet in Garson itself.
  • Falconbridge, about 18 km northeast, began as a company town for the Falconbridge mine, so expect older homes with history.
  • Rural and waterfront options nearby around Skead and Wahnapitae, where some homes are on a private well and septic.

What to Expect When You Buy in Garson

  • Older homes need a closer look. Ask about the age of the roof, windows, furnace and electrical, and book a home inspection.
  • Short commutes for mine and airport workers. That keeps demand steady for well-kept family homes.
  • Out-of-town services. Ask whether the home is on municipal water and sewer or a private well and septic. If it’s rural, make your offer conditional on a water test and septic inspection. We’ll help you sort out what to ask for.
  • Schools. Northeastern Elementary, St. John Catholic and École St-Augustin are in Garson, and Rainbow District School Board lists Garson in the Confederation Secondary area. School boundaries change. Confirm the school for the exact address with the board before you firm up.

Garson Buying Tips From Someone Who Lives Here

If you ride sleds, look for a big garage. Groomed snowmobile trails are minutes from home, and a good garage is worth a lot to Garson buyers when it’s time to sell, too.

Falconbridge and Garson homes from the mining era often have great bones. Budget for updates rather than walking away from a dated kitchen.

Everyday Life

Garson has a grocery store, pharmacy, walk-in clinic, daycare and restaurants, and New Sudbury Centre is about 12 minutes away. The George Armstrong Community Centre and Arena on Church Street is the heart of winter, the Garson Library and Citizen Service Centre on Orell Street sits beside an outdoor rink and skate park, Cedar Green Golf Club is right in town, and the Garson Park Trail follows Junction Creek. GOVA Transit serves the community.
