Copper Cliff is a historic, tight-knit community on the west side of Greater Sudbury, about 7.5 km from downtown. It offers older character homes on mature streets, its own arena, indoor pool and public school, and a central location minutes from downtown, the South End and Lively. Team KING | eXp Realty, Brokerage helps buyers and sellers in Copper Cliff and across Greater Sudbury.
Why Copper Cliff Is Close to Jason’s Heart
Jason King, REALTOR®, knows Copper Cliff from the ground up. While he was in university, he worked at the Copper Cliff smelter and took on all kinds of hard industrial jobs, the kind of work that built this community. Even then, he always admired Copper Cliff’s historic charm and the beauty of its old streets and homes.
He isn’t the only one. Many people who grew up in Copper Cliff move back when they’re older, drawn by the same character, the tight-knit feel, great recreational facilities and a location that puts the whole city within easy reach.
A Bit of History
Copper Cliff grew up as a company town beside the nickel smelter complex once run by Inco and now operated by Vale. That history still shapes its streets, homes and close community ties.
The Copper Cliff Superstack, a 381-metre chimney that was the tallest in the world when it began operating in 1972, was shut down after Vale’s Clean AER project came online. Vale began taking it down in 2025, and as of fall 2026 it stands at about 278 metres. Vale expects the work to finish around 2030.
Parks, Recreation and Everyday Life
- McClelland Community Centre and Arena (37 Veterans Road): public skating, minor hockey and ice rentals, with seating for about 680.
- R.G. Dow Pool (38 Veterans Road): one of the City of Greater Sudbury’s five indoor municipal pools.
- Neighbourhood parks, green space and walkable older streets.
Copper Cliff sits on Regional Road 55, so commutes downtown, to the smelter complex, or out to Lively and Walden are short. Bigger shopping is minutes away in Sudbury.
Schools
Copper Cliff Public School (Rainbow District School Board, JK to Grade 8) is at 50 School Street, in the heart of the community. Rainbow District has named it a feeder school for Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School and Lockerby Composite School in the South End. Boundaries can change, so always confirm the school for a specific address with the board before you buy. Families wanting Catholic or French-language schools should check those boards for nearby options.
Homes in Copper Cliff
