About St. Charles
The Municipality of St.-Charles was created in 1999 from the townships of Casimir, Jennings and Appleby, along with a strip of land on the West Arm of Lake Nipissing. It includes the townsite of St. Charles and the smaller communities of Casimir and West Arm. The 2021 census counted 1,357 residents, and about 41% have French as their mother tongue.
The village is about 60 km from downtown Sudbury, roughly an hour’s drive. A lot of residents commute into the city, and many others are here for the quiet and the outdoors.
Lakes and the Outdoors
The municipality points to three main lakes:
- Nepewassi Lake, about 16 miles long, known for pickerel, bass, pike and musky
- The West Arm of Lake Nipissing, narrow and winding with lots of coves and bays
- Barlow Lake, plus many smaller lakes on Crown land
Hunting, snowmobiling and camping are a big part of life here, which is why camps and bush lots sell in St. Charles too.
